Pascal Boyer - Run away

After 15 years of producing electronic music, Pascal returns to his first love — metal. He’s just released a powerful 5-track EP, blending raw energy with emotional depth — a sonic punch you need to experience right now.

Driven by masterful production and guitars that shift between crushing weight and atmospheric depth, Run Away showcases the full scope of Pascal artistic vision. Balancing fury and vulnerability, the song captures that defining moment when one chooses to break free from what holds them back.

Pascal Boyer was born in France but grew up in Greece, where he started listening to heavy metal at a young age. He went through almost every genre of music since then, from symphonic metal to trip-hop, electro to disco. Having no proper musical education, he still felt the need to express his ideas, whether it was playing guitar in a small band, experimenting with computers on electronic music, playing synths or teaching his self to play bass. Over the years, Boyer's style got more defined by combining electro and funk with a touch of disco.Today, he decided to pay tribute to his first love, metal music.

Fans of Tool, Night Verses, or Black Sabbath — this one’s for you!

With Run Away, Pascal delivers a powerful and deeply personal track that blends raw emotion with sonic intensity. Released in September, the single stands as a bold statement of evolution and self-liberation. Through immersive post-metal textures and a heartfelt performance, Pascal explores the vital need to grow, evolve, and never remain stagnant as an individual.

Interview with Pascal Boyer

(•)> What inspired you to return to metal after 15 years of producing electronic music?

I found myself reflecting on my roots and the sounds that first shaped me. Turning 40 brought a period of introspection, and while going through my old CD collection, I rediscovered the metal bands I loved as a child. That passion never truly left me — it just lay dormant. Returning to metal felt natural.

(•)> How did your experience with electronic music influence the sound of your new metal EP?

Synths help to add depth, layers, and texture to the sound. I also enjoy incorporating samples from movies and field recordings, weaving them into the music to create unique atmospheres and sonic landscapes.

(•)> Can you describe your creative process when writing and recording these five tracks?

I usually start with the drums, then layer in bass — whether guitar or synth — before bringing in the melody. Once I have a rough demo, I let it “rest” for a few days, returning to it with fresh ears. This process often leads to happy accidents, and with patience, the track evolves naturally. For this EP, I also had the pleasure of collaborating with many talented musicians from Fiverr, adding even more layers to the sound.

(•)> Which artists or bands were your biggest influences growing up, and do they show up in this EP?

Nine Inch Nails, John Carpenter, and Sonic Youth have been some of my biggest influences. I’ve always been drawn to darker melodies and immersive sonic worlds. For this EP, I also drew inspiration from other references that helped shape its unique atmosphere.

(•)> How does it feel to pay tribute to the music that first inspired you?

While creating this EP, I had bands like Gojira, Tool and Tesseract in mind. I wanted to craft something intricate and layered — music that challenges both rhythm and emotion — while preserving a strong cinematic atmosphere throughout. Listening to the final result ,after 3 years of work, feels great!

(•)> What themes or emotions do you explore in this EP?

This EP is deeply political, as it explores the growing attempts by some to control every aspect of our lives – from total surveillance to the subtle pressures of mass conformity. It's a reflection on freedom, resistance, and the fragile balance between individuality and what truly matters.

(•)> Did growing up in France and Greece shape your musical tastes or approach to metal?

Yes, Greece has a very strong metal culture. I grew up there from the age of 9 to 18, and I even got to see Iron Maiden when I was 18 — an amazing experience! My father introduced me to heavy metal and ’70s rock when I was very young, and music has been a strong pillar in my life ever since.

(•)> How do you balance raw energy with emotional depth in your music?

It all starts with a clear vision — a concept that takes time, patience, and focus to bring to life. Some days you’ll sit down to create and nothing will come. Don’t let that discourage you. Every pause, every silence, is part of the process. Take a breath, and begin again tomorrow with renewed energy and a fresh perspective.

(•)> Are there any particular songs on the EP that have a special meaning to you?

Yes, “Run Away” is a very personal song — it speaks about the vital need to evolve, to grow, and to never stagnate as an individual. Sometimes you take one step forward and two steps back because your comfort zone can be hard to break free from.

(•)> What can fans expect from you next?

My focus right now is to create more scores for films and short movies. I’ve already composed two, and I absolutely love the process. I also enjoy collaborating with talented musicians — you never know who you might meet and create something special with in the future.
