Charli xcx - BRAT (2024)
(•)> So bold! BRAT SUMMER WAS AWESOME!!!
Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT (2024)
(•)> Phinneas' surgical production stands out and her voice is lighter than ever. I can't get my head around people who hate Billie's achievements in pop music.
Tyler, The Creator - CHROMAKOPIA (2024)
(•)> new opigeon coming soon!!!
Kendrick Lamar - GNX (2024)
(•)> R.I.P. Drake
¥$ - VULTURES 1 (2024)
(•)> No replay. A lil' bird told me that the intolerant lyrics of this LP are canceling it, but I didn't pay attention to them when listening to this and I don't even need to mention them to break "Vultures". I hate to break it to you, but this bloated mess sounds like a demo. If this wasn't released by the "special one" Kanye West this release would be ignored like any other Ty Dolla $ign and would be added to the huge dumpster fire of trap and rage launched every year without any further thought. Why is Kanye teaming up with such an average artist? Was Ty the only one willing to put Kanye's controversial (to say the least...) opinions on tape?! Meanwhile, I have to admit that "BURN" actually stood out to my ears for its sense of urgency.
Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine (2024)
(•)> Since I'm sure that, at least, "bye", "eternal sunshine", "supernatural", "yes, and?" and "imperfect for you" stood out to my ears, then this must be an improvement over her previous effort.
Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet (2024)
(•)> Smooth songs under silk sheets, but too polished for my taste.
Clairo - Charm (2024)
(•)>Never underestimate the bond between a girl in the attic and her guitar.
Beyoncé - COWBOY CARTER (2024)
(•)> new opigeon coming soon!!!
Future - WE DON'T TRUST YOU (2024)
(•)> Metro Boomin's casual production makes "WE DON'T TRUST YOU" a particularly interesting project, especially when compared with Future's most recent output. I don't doubt the dude is super influential in the trap scene and that he was key in updating trap to a modern audience, but so far I haven't crossed ways with a decent project from him, since "High Off Life" and "Pluto x Baby Pluto" were pretty pointless to my ears... The deep cuts of "WE DON'T TRUST YOU" are mostly carried by Metro's psychedelic and shiny nocturnal beats, while Future is in autopilot like always. The beautiful voice of The Weeknd is wasted in the background of "Young Metro", "Everyday Hustle" showcases an excellent luxurious sample, Playboy Carti, and Travis Scott make me vibe in "Type Shit" and "Cinderella", but "Like That" is the hit I enjoy the most. Here, Future improves his game and manages to grab my attention as a thug who is running out of breath and wheezing. On the other hand, Metro Boomin crushes in the production department with a beat similar to "Steppin' On Niggas" - the supreme highlight of "Savage Mode II" - and hyperspeed switches. Last but not least, Evil Kendrick outshines everybody dissing Drake and J. Cole and proclaiming himself as the number one rapper alive!
JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU (2024)
(•)> new opigeon coming soon!!!
Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk (2024)
(•)> Colorful glitter pop everywhere all at once!
Taylor Swift - THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT (2024)
(•)> new opigeon coming soon!!!
21 Savage - american dream (2024)
(•)> I wasn't planning on replaying this project, but I did. How could I stay away from highlights like "all of me", "redrum" and "letter to my brudda"?! I think this is a solid release from 21 Savage until "née - nah", despite having some reservations with, "sneaky", "dangerous" and "pop ur shit". "see the reel" is probably my least favorite on the whole project, because it breaks the tone of the record to deliver the most average song on the planet. Despite never reaching the highs of the beginning "american dream" gets back some of its momentum until "just like me". "red sky" is ruined by an overproduced hook, but at least the depressive flows of 21 Savage are complemented by a luminous feature delivered by Mariah The Scientist on the closer: "Dark Days".
Dua Lipa - Radical Optimism (2024)
(•)> Baby shark nosedives... "Houdini", "Training Season", and "These Walls" stand out, but never reach the highs of Future Nostalgia. If I had a nickel for every mainstream "Houdini" that came out in 2024... I'd have two nickels, but it's strange that it happened twice.
Kali Uchis - ORQUÍDEAS (2024)
(•)> Let her cook!
Charly xcx - Brat and it's completely different but also still brat (2024)
(•)> Hit or miss, but still Brat!
Fontaines D.C. - Romance (2024)
(•)> new opigeon coming soon!!!
Future - WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU (2024)
(•)> Future and Metro Boomin's second round opens with "We Still Don't Trust You", a futuristic banger whose production beams lean more towards house than a trap! "Always Be My Fault" makes me want a collab project between Metro Boomin' and The Weekend. One can only imagine what it would be like hearing Abel's gorgeous voice over Metro's casual beats during an entire project... And to end disc one, "Red Leather" J. Cole provides the only guitar on the album. The skill of Metro Boomin in the production chair continues to carry this project, and even dares to innovate on beats like "Cross Out". While Future, once again, is mostly just along for the ride, Metro is committed to keeping the tracklist as infectious as possible. I find it amusing that Future says there are a million clones of him when at this point, he's also just another clone of himself. But I got to give credit where it's due, he finally decided to wake up on "Nobody Knows My Struggle". "We Still Don't Trust You" wasn't a particularly exciting project, but I also didn't mind having it as the background of my night at all. Can someone explain to me why is this project divided into two discs, I truly don't get it. You could argue the second part is more brief and experimental, like an EP, but I don't see it as enough of a reason to break the project apart.
ScHoolboy Q - BLUE LIPS (2024)
(•)> I crossed paths with ScHoolboy Q when he made his contribution to Gorillaz's song machine by delivering an amazing feature on "Pac-Man". Meanwhile, "Blue Lips" seems like a solid project that can hold on its own from front to back.
Twenty One Pilots - Clancy (2024)
(•)> Bombastic! Despite being bloated, Clancy borrows from different genres of the alternative sphere and achieves highlights in the form of "Overcompensate", Midwest Indigo", "Vignette", "Navigating, "Paladin Strait". Much better than their previous effort.
Geordie Greep - The New Sound (2024)
(•)> A record this holy only comes once in a red moon! How about we dance some salsa? And some jazz? And some prog? A whole new eclectic sound never afraid of being cheesy. The insane adventures of Black Midi's frontman. Maybe the real Black Midi is the many hands-on knees we put along the way. Geordie Greep has a grippin' Latin male aura and fights exciting swashbucklers to the death. Of course, all the revolutionaries know his name!
The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Exstasy (2024)
(•)> "Prelude to Ecstasy" seems like a really good project! Everything here sounds so glamorous and luxurious, and still manages to be pretty damn catchy! The Last Dinner Party exhibits feminine glory with an orchestral presentation. I can't shake the feeling this is Black Country, New Road for girls and I'm all ears for it!
Yeat - 2093 (2024)
(•)> This one is a banger, but I can't stop seeing rage as a one note genre that is constantly pushing itself into a corner. Maybe I wouldn't notice how lenghty and one - dimensional this one is if I was blasting it at a rave.
J. Cole - Might Delete Later (2024)
(•)> To be honest, I stopped paying attention to this one after "Pricey" and "Crocodile Tearz". J. Cole says he switches dimensions like Rick and Morty, but this release couldn't sound more inconsequential... I would be crushing Cole right now for dissing the masterful film that is "good kid, m.A.A.d City", but the dude apologized a few days later, so I guess he's off the hook.
EDIT: J. Cole dodged the bullet.
