1. Hey Ear Candy, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?
Hey hey hey! Thanks for chatting with me! I first got into music when I was 7 after watching Oklahoma at my local theater. I was obsessed with playing all the characters and singing the songs and my parents saw it in me. I signed up to a pop choir and developed my love of music there and came through several projects and landed where I am now, I wouldn’t change it
2. What do you dislike about the art world?
I would have to say it’s the pressure and the impact of thinking you have to be something you’re not. Everyone believes you have to be a perfect ray of sunshine every day and it can be harmful to yourself. I always just try and be real and be me, and I think that’s worth so much more, not just to me but to the world as well.
3. How do you balance your time in the studio with other commitments such as a part-time job, family, admin?
I am really lucky to have the luxury of self employment where I can have the freedom of time when I need it as long as I manage it fully. I always try and build my schedule to those around me and who I wanna spend time with so it means I can still get my work done and also see them! Every second in between that it’s full ear candy mode and every little job and big job will get dealt with the first second it can!
4. What makes you the happiest?
Sounds super cliche but I think I would have to say being on stage. Whether it be big or small crowds, I just love the buzz. I am yet to find something that makes me feel as complete as being on stage.
5. What is the biggest decision you’ve had to make?
I think it was when I was younger and just finishing up my higher education, I had to decide whether I was going to put everything into my music or just leave it as a hobby and get a full time job. I think you can guess where I landed.
6. What’s your favorite Youtube channel?
I’m a bit of a nerd so do enjoy some time on YouTube watching all sorts of stuff. For music it has to be ‘Musician on a Mission’. The tips and tricks I’ve learned on there have been priceless to get me to where I am. But as I said I’m a geek and I love gaming, my favorite wind down YouTube channel has to be ‘Trainer Tips’. I’ve been a full on Pokémon Go player since it came out and his videos really chill me out.
7. Can you describe a real-life situation that inspired you?
Relationships. Always relationships. Sometimes it’s the joy and elation that inspire me to be creative or sometimes it’s been the heartbreak to get me to bury myself into my full writing craze.
8. What triggers your nostalgic feelings?
Music from my past I’d say. A lot of the time it’s old music from video games but also it’s forgotten songs that I used to love when I was growing up and even a few years ago. It just takes me back to those times and good memories.
9. How do you spend your time?
I like to think I have a decent work/life balance. I’ll work from the start of the day until that day’s work is done. Sometimes I’m slogging away for 10 hours sometimes I only have an hours worth to do. Then I’ll either be playing some games, watching films or as you might have guessed; making music. I don’t see my music as work so anything to do with ear candy like social media or admin or writing is almost like a free time thing.
