Interview

1. Hey Ettie , super nice to have the chance to chat with you again! First and foremost what got you into music?

I’ve always been a writer and a storyteller, ever since I was young and didn’t even have anything to write about I was always making up stuff. When I started developing my music taste and listening to bands like Paramore and Fall Out Boy, I started to see that my love for storytelling can translate into song, and it hits right in the feels.

2. Can you describe a real-life situation that inspired you?

Seeing Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana in the Hannah Montana: Meet Miley Cyrus tour in (approx) 2007. What a performer! It sounds like a joke, and it kind of is, but I was super influenced by female popstars growing up, so seeing someone only a few years older than me playing sold-out stadiums was pretty inspiring.

3. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up?

Shakespeare’s Globe.

4. What do you dislike about the art world?

People value followers and social media presence over the quality of their art. Make something you’re proud of and other people will be proud of it with you; don’t base your art on the judgement of other people.

5. What are you focussing on right now?

Maintaining a work-life balance, or, more accurately, a work-work-life balance. To fund my music I also have another full-time job, and sometimes it feels like you have to sacrifice your personal life in order to be successful, or your standard of work so you can have fun. I’m focussing on getting a healthy middle (not very well, but focussing).

6. Do you like “All Star” from Smash Mouth?

It is my mission in life to acquire the World Record Store Day exclusive swamp green vinyl of the Shrek soundtrack. I know it came out years ago and there were only, like, 50 and the only one I can find is over £150 but I WILL have the Shrinyl one day and on that day “All Star” will become my favourite song.

7. Are you usually listenning to any 2023 record?

I have had “the record” - boygenius literally on repeat since it came out earlier this year. What a master-class in songwriting and storytelling!

8. Do you listen to podcasts?

I wish but that wouldn’t give me enough time to listen to the same songs I have been listening to every day since 2009.

9. What’s your favorite sport?

Running through your mind.

10. Do agree with the Pigeon?

The first rule of The Pigeon, is that nobody talks about The Pigeon.

Bonus Questions (This is cinema!):

1. What is your favorite movie from the iconic Back to the Future trillogy? Do you consider it a perfect trillogy?

Favourite has to be the first one, come on! It’s just so iconic: the colours, the outfits, the score, it’s the epoch of film. I do believe the second film was a perfect sequel, I loved the further development of Marty and Doc’s backstories. The third film… I mean the Wild West is always a vibe.

2. Have you seen the new Michael J. Fox film/ documentary?

I did watch the Michael J. Fox documentary, and I think it was very informative and it’s so brave to be so vulnerable.

3. Do you like other flicks made by Robert Zemeckis?

And of course Forest Gump!

The Pigeon added the new single to his Monthly Gems playlist on Spotify. You can check out the released music below. If you like what you hear, make sure to follow along so you can stay on top of future releases!
