1. Cru Cru Garland Kelley, super nice to have the chance to chat with you! What first got you into music?

Glad to chat with you as well! There were a number of factors that coalesced when I was about 12 years old. My grandfather was a huge influence in my life and interest in music. He was a saxophonist in the Navy band during WWII and I was hugely inspired by his playing. My stepdad played in a rock band and bought me my first guitar. I immediately fell in love with guitar and rock music and that has been a primary influence in my artistic development. He introduced me to bands and artists like TOOL, Primus, The Doors, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix. My mom also has a great taste in music so my childhood was full of great songs. Some artists and bands that stand out the most from her influence are Dave Matthews Band, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alanis Morissette, The Cranberries, The Smashing Pumpkins, Blind Melon, and Pearl Jam.

2. Can you tell us a cringe memory of yours?I

I make cringe memories on the daily. Generally, my cringe moments are when I make a blatant mistake during a gig or one of my plethora of bad jokes that crash and burn.

3. What’s your favorite color?

My favorite color is sky blue. I am a fan of all blues but if I had to narrow it down, that would be the one. I consider it my power and zen color.

4 Will you tell us something embarrassing about you?

This is a tough question to answer because I tend to not be embarrassed about who I am. I am sure my stepdaughter or other family members would have plenty of embarrassing things to say, more than likely my endless bag of dad jokes.

5. What’s the best decade for music?

There is music from every decade that I love but I am particularly fond of the late 60s/early 70s. I feel that the music from virtually every genre was of superb quality and was before an era of digital production. There is nothing wrong with digital productions but I tend to prefer the raw energy from that era of music.

6. What’s your favorite 00’s artist?

It’s really hard to narrow that down because there are bands I love from the 90s that continued throughout the 2000s like The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Radiohead. As far as bands or artists that were primarily in the 2000s, I would have to say System of a Down or Modest Mouse.

7. What’s the best advice for livin' life?

No one knows what we’re doing here. Be kind, spread love, and enjoy life.
