Interview

1. Hey Monroe, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. First and foremost what got you into music?

Hello! Nice to make your acquaintance, thank you!

I started making music in my late 30s after Theo bought a complete band setup for our 5 children one Christmas. They unwrapped a keyboard, bass guitar, electric guitar, an electric drum kit, auxiliary percussion instruments, amps, and microphones! But they were not as interested in messing about with it all as I was …

2. What was your favorite subject in school?

Everything but maths . . . literature, I like reading.

3. What are you focusing on right now?

We are focusing on completing our next EP with the Grammy Award winning English producer, Mike Exeter. We are very excited and proud to be working with him.

The songs were recorded here in Grand Rapids, MI at Electric Moon Studios with Ryan Jamgotch, who also plays lead guitar on the tracks.

We hope to release the EP for streaming early 2024 and a vinyl release shortly thereafter.

It’s been a lot of fun!

4. What’s the biggest accomplishment you have made with your career to this point?

Signing with The Bohemia Group Music Management. Susan Ferris, the CEO is a legend in the industry and our manager, Stuart Craner has been amazing. He is supportive and motivated to help us get our music out there. It’s been a thrill working with them.

We also recently played at the Whisky A-Go-Go in LA just this past August. To be on the same stage as so many greats was intoxicating.

5. Do you like Death Grips?

I don’t know Death Grips, do you know Seven Year Witch?

6. What’s your favorite 80’s artist?

That’s not fair to ask me to choose one artist from an entire decade of great music, but I did just listen to Peter Gabriel today so ….

7. Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Yes and honestly, Greensleeves or some butchered Opera.

8. What’s your favorite 2010’s artist?

Again, unfair . . . Broken Bells

9. What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

I am just here to have fun and be myself, and it has been fun, and I have evolved and met new versions of myself and past versions of myself, and I think that’s great in itself.

10. Do you agree with the Pigeon?

Totes, 100.

Review

Monroe Moon instantly captures my attention with an unparalleled distorted or even ominous atmosphere. These dark riffs take me down a tenuousness road that is propelled by a symbiosis between constant beats and six diesel-powered strings. This symbiosis is further refined by synths from yesteryear that make the single acquire sci-fi properties typical of the 80s. "Navigator" deserves to be appreciated for its nostalgic alternative rock and it definitely deserves your attention!

The Pigeon added a single from her to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify. You can check out the released music below. If you like what you hear, make sure to follow along so you can stay on top of future releases!
