1. Hey NEFΛEΛI , super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?
Hello Pigeon! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about my music.
I often mention in my bio that I grew up in a family full of musicians. Yes, all of them were musicians, parents, uncles, aunts, cousins. So, I was introduced to the world of music by singing, jamming and performing with them. This is how I first experienced performing in front of an audience. My family created a music group consisted of 6 parents and their 8 children (us), singing and performing all together, all around Greece. Playing and learning music with my cousins was an amazing start, especially for young Nefeli.
2. What is the biggest decision you’ve had to make?
When I was 19 years old, I decided to raise some money, leave my birthplace; Athens and move to Rotterdam.
3. What’s your favorite Youtube channel?
I really enjoy watching Youtube and all the interesting concepts that Youtubers have come up in this platform. Not surprisingly, my favourite channel is Tiny Desk, for the very obvious reason that it is so amusing being able to listen and discover all of these artists. I always know that Tiny Desk will have interesting people there and whenever I have the urge to explore I just play a random video. It has happened a lot in the past that people I saw for the first time performing there, turned out to be my favourite artists. Lianne la Havas for example was one of my most favourite performances on Tiny Desk. Listened, fell in love, stalked forever and just swam in her music.
4. Describe a real-life situation that inspired you?
In 2018, I had the chance to participate in a private workshop given by one of my favourite composers, Dine Doneff (please give a listen and read about this very interesting person). The workshop was about “Our inner self, and the mask”. It was an experience that awakened a lot of different emotions for me. It was kind of telling me “you are not crazy, your instinct about music is valid”. Pursuing being a professional artist, can usually create an elitist mentality that is often built in ones head. Using your art as a source of income can often confuse you, by making you compare yourself to others, being judgmental, and mostly getting in the habit of “approving and disapproving” other artists around you. Going through this workshop, I noticed that the moment I allowed myself to get lost in my feelings and leave all other external factors at the door, music became way more validating and judgement free. It felt liberating and it opened a window to a new way to make music. A more mature, more unique and more self-loving way. I got very motivated by the words of Dine Doneff. I felt like that was my first “adult” day as a musician.
5. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up?
My mind is empty in the morning, I mostly focus on making my enormous coffee and wish for Rotterdam to be sunny…
6. What is the biggest mistake you have made within your career to this point?
I could easily sit down and talk about a numerous times when I did something that just didn’t really express me, when I wasn’t honest or at least transparent enough with myself. On the other hand, I am not thinking of these moments as a mistake, cause as cheesy as it will sound, they made me who I am now and they helped me become as honest as possible with myself and with the people around me. In order to reach that level, you really need to experience all of your “mistakes” and then go through all of them and rip of the “mistake” label off of them.
7. What is the best advice you’ve been given?

8. What’s your favorite discography?
Radiohead. Radiohead. Radiohead. Radiohead
9. Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
I always liked creating visuals, in a very beginner/ lo-fi way, that I always enjoyed. I liked finding a visual idea and creating some pictures around it. You can observe this development through my Instagram account that I always liked it being consistent. Also, this past summer, me and a group of friends created a short independent film, called “i breathe”. We are in the middle of editing it and hopefully release it soon. When you watch it, you will be able to identify the connection between the film and my debut album “I Breathe”.
10. Do you often agree with the Pigeon?
Of course! I support all creators, especially the ones promoting emerging artists and giving a voice to all of this amazing talent that exists out there.
