Interview
1. Cru cru, what first got you into music?
Hearing my parents’ records got me into rock and disco, but it was musicals that first got me into melody. Oliver!, Annie, The Sound of Music, etc.
2. What or who is your inspiration to create music?
Inspiration is all around us: nature, things that people say, things you read, a laugh, seeing heartbreak and suffering… Music is life, so life should be reflected in it.
3. How do you feel the internet has impacted the music business?
Since I’m an old-schooler and a punk, I can say with certainty and conviction that the internet has ruined music. The only benefit of being a musician during the current era is that someone can produce and distribute music for very little cost. That said, there is so much out there that reeks of low-budget!
4. Will you tell us something embarrassing about you?
I lay my clothes out the night before.
5. How is your perfect day?
Exploring a new city, then playing live in that city that night. I’d love to do this in Portugal!
6. What memorable responses have you had to your work so far?
There have been so many for ‘Then There You Are.’ Many are understanding that it’s classic, anarchistic folk. The rawness is appealing to the right people. One of my favorite quotes is: “the sensitivity that hides behind each note is overwhelming.”
7. Do you see yourself as a music nerd?
Absolutely. I study music. I love intricacy, but I also love the simplest pop hook. I love the way that music can convey darkness. Plus, my favorite band of all time is Rush!
8. What album do you replay the most?
Glow by The Innocence Mission
9. What's your favorite movie?
In the Bedroom
10. Do you agree with the Pigeon?
Absolutely. I agree that newer artists deserve exposure!
